Escape from Tarkov is set in Norvinsk, a the fictional Norvinsk region of Russia with a distinctly cold war feel about it. War has broken out between two private military companies the USEC "United Security" and BEAR the "Battle Encounter Assault Regiment". Players join matches in which they fight other players for loot and aim to survive and escape; dying results in the loss of almost all items the player used and found during that game.
